Job opportunity: Film-maker to Coach young people

We are looking for a film-maker to coach and support young people on two Brixton film projects this summer 

About you

You are a self-shooting director/editor with recent experience of making your own films from start to finish. You might be a recent film graduate.

You are confident and able to lead young people through the film-making process. You can teach technical skills including use of camera and editing software. You enjoy working with young people.

You can advise on/provide the kit needed for the project.

It would be extremely helpful if you can use a C100 Canon and 5D Mark 2 Canon and/or you have experience of making films using smartphones and free software.

About us

We are a new community business offering project based work experience to disadvantaged young people aged 16+ who live in the Brixton area. We have been commissioned to deliver two film projects this summer. Each project will be delivered by 10 young people working together over one week. During the week they will both learn and do. We are seeking a skilled film-maker to help us structure the programme, decide on the best process to fulfil the brief and provide hands-on support and guidance to the young people.

About the job

The overall lead on the projects is a business coach who will help the students understand the brief, work effectively together and present their results. Your role is to provide the specialist film making expertise. You will be a role model and coach, develop young people’s skills and ensure that the final product is of the appropriate quality.

You will be working with the students intensively during the project week. You will also be involved in designing the programme to fulfil the brief, including skills master-classes provided by industry mentors.

The projects are scheduled to take place as follows:

  • Campaign Film for Lambeth Council – 19-23 June
  • “How to” video’s for Safer London Business Partnership – 10-14 July

You will be full time (plus some evenings) during the project weeks, plus some preparation during May and June.

Location: Briefings and presentations will take place at the client location in Brixton. We have an editing room at Studio Moross in Stockwell.

Pay: We can offer £100 a day for 10 days work or project fee of £1000.
